China Day 11: Lock Step

All that remains for us is to go on through the locks themselves, which will take from lunchtime until dinnertime - you can see why locks are a bottleneck to navigation! Even though they pack those locks pretty darned full before cycling them. A perfectly enormous container ship loomed over us on our trip:
China-1136
China-1137
China-1138

It was quite fun, actually. We all gathered in the library, which has forward-viewing windows,
China-1141
to stay out of the chilly wind, and chatted or knitted or did whatever,
China-1142
while we rose in stately progression up through the locks.
